Visual Basic Training Courses

The Visual Basic Language

If you just wish to learn the language and don’t have a specific target then this course is perfect. It is a good choice if you have worked in other languages and want to get a good feel for what Visual Basic is about. View the full course outline.

Visual Basic.Net for VB6 Programmers

Many developers come to the .Net implementation of Visual Basic from a VB6 or VBA background, so are already familiar with the basic language syntax. The current Visual Basic is a very different beast to its predecessors, as it is a full and unlimited object-oriented language, so this course begins with an explanation of object orientation and component design using VB. It then covers how we can exploit VB to produce sophisticated applications. This outline targets Windows Forms, but any of our other courses can be provided in variants assuming VB6 or VBA experience.

Writing Web Applications Using Visual Basic and ASP.Net

ASP.Net is Microsoft's key technology for developing web applications. Central to ASP.Net is the concept of code-behind where Visual Basic developers can treat a page as a collection of VB objects. This course teaches all you need to develop sophisticated web applications by including the Visual Basic language, the .Net Framework and database access as well as ASP.Net. It also touches on related technologies such as web services and the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF). If you already have Visual Basic .Net experience then a shorter course can be arranged.

Writing Visual Basic Applications

Most Windows desktop applications are written using Windows Forms, which provides the familiar visual development environment popularized by the original Visual Basic. This course provides a full coverage of the Visual Basic language, graphical user interface design, database access and much of the .Net Framework.

Additional Modules

We can offer a range of different courses for Visual Basic developers, and if these don’t suit your exact needs then we can create a custom course that does.

We have a number of modules which can be added to our standard courses depending on your requirements, for example XML, Unit Testing, GDI+, WPF 3D, SQL Server CLR Integration and WCF.

Advanced Visual Basic

In the past Visual Basic was seen by many developers as being in the shadow of other languages like C++ when it came to producing applications which exploited current and emerging technologies to the full. But now Visual Basic can be used to do everything that languages like C# can achieve, with the exception of unsafe code. This course is for developers who want to take VB to the next level. The outline given is just a guide - let us know your exact requirements and we will produce a course to suit your needs.

Writing Visual Basic WPF Applications

The Windows Presentation Framework provides an XML based approach to user interface design using the code-behind methodology which proved so successful in ASP.Net. WPF removes the restrictions imposed by Windows Forms and Windows itself upon designers craving visually stunning user interfaces, but is a much less mature technology. It also includes a section on Silverlight, which allows us to exploit the same concepts an a web page. This course covers the Visual Basic language and the .Net Framework as well as WPF, but a shorter course can be arranged for those who already have prior VB and .Net experience.

Upgrading to WPF

A short course for developers already familiar with Visual Basic and .Net and who would like to move on to the Windows Presentation Foundation.

Multitasking using Visual Basic

A short course for developers who are already familiar with VB and would like to use it to exploit .Net's multitasking capabilities, in particular the new parallel features in .Net 4.

Visual Basic 6

Traditional Visual Basic was such a popular tool that many systems implemented using it are still being updated and enhanced, and for this reason new developers are always required. We can offer a full 5-day course, or just the modules which are relevant to your needs. View the full course outline.
